Tarpon Springs has a unique and interest-
ing history. This riverside community was
once just a small fishing village providing a
vacation spot for sport fishermen in the
late1800's in search of the great Tarpon that
frequented these brackish waters.
In the early 1900's all that was changed with
the growing Sponge industry in the
Bahamas. An American, Tom Cheney,
brought a group of Greek Divers here from
the Florida Panhandle. The Sponge Industry
flourished  and the Greek Community
prospered into the largest Sponge Industry
in the country. Come , enjoy the culture and
heritage and visit us in Tarpon Springs!
